Wellbeing RoadShow

The last year and a half has been extremely difficult for the vast majority of people and there is a growing body of research supporting our understanding of the difficulties that specific groups have faced and are still facing today.

School communities have been through the mill. School staff have reported feeling anxious, exhausted; at times hopeless and in some cases, burned out. Navigating the complexities of working within a pandemic landscape alongside the unwavering commitment to supporting pupils has not been easy at all. In many cases, school staff have juggled their professional responsibilities in addition to their own family responsibilities with their own wellbeing far down the list of priorities.

This is where we come in

We are rolling out a Wellbeing Roadshow in schools across Newham (or in community spaces) that brings together a collection of services from Brighter Futures and across the wellbeing and mental health partnership.

The aim of the wellbeing roadshow are to:

  • offer activities for young people designed to challenge thinking
  • normalise those tricky conversations around mental health
  • signpost young people and their families to what support is available in the borough
  • provide some learning around wellbeing strategies or coping tools that can be used within the school environment or at home.

Colleagues from Brighter Futures will come into school at a time convenient to you (minimum slot of 30 minutes) and embed themselves within the environment around them. We find that the best time is lunch times.

Why lunch times?

We respect the fact that for our young people, lunchtime is their leisure time. The activities are not compulsory. It will be our job to make sure we meet the young people where they are at, and to integrate into their space, school staff do not need to do anything other than be present and available. We also want to meet them in their natural working environment.

  • Promoting wellbeing opportunities or resilience building activities during unstructured times and outside of the classroom increases CYP’s ability to focus during lessons and supports a whole school approach to mental wellbeing.
  • It is an opportunity for lunch time staff to notice behaviours that are out of the ordinary for young people or to look for signs that they that may be struggling.
  • The Roadshow aims to explore with staff some of the things to look out for when recognising mental health difficulties and what to do about it.
  • Staff wellbeing is equally important, and Brighter Futures will be on hand to talk through self-care tools and Talking Therapies and the various support services available to staff in the borough.

The Roadshow will be running throughout this academic year and we would like to offer your school the opportunity to have us attend.

Our programme can be tailored to reflect the individual needs and themes emerging for your school so please feel free to discuss your requirements with us.

Please complete the expression of interest form here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/KHS2D2B . Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Once we have your form, we will set up a meeting with the designated lead contact from your school to discuss individual needs, the most suitable date and time as well as the logistics on the day.

Sessions will start in November 2021 and continue into the New Year 2022.

We look forward to hearing from you!
