For Policy Makers

HeadStart is a five-year, £56 million National Lottery funded programme set-up by The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK.

When people are in the lead, communities thrive and this programme explores and tests new ways to improve the mental health and wellbeing of young people aged 10 to 16. The aim is to prevent serious mental-health issues from developing.

HeadStart is robustly testing and evaluating approaches to promoting emotional resilience in order to prevent the development of mental health disorders in adolescents and improve their educational and life chance outcomes.

We will be regularly sharing our evaluation findings on this site and at conferences in order to support the commissioning of effective early mental health and resilience support in other parts of the UK and abroad.
