Together, HeadStart and Newham schools promote resilience and wellbeing through strategic planning and detailed practice involving the whole school community.
Expert coaching for all staff incorporating the Academic Resilience Approach is offered which ensures the school has a system in place for identifying young people who could benefit from additional support to improve their resilience.
Academic Resilience is an approach for schools devised by Lisa Williams and Professor Angie Hart and utilised by HeadStart Newham.
HeadStart Champion groups are set up in schools to help ensure co-production is at the heart of everything we do and young people have a voice in the development of their schools’ resilience strategy. This leads to increased pupil school connectedness and promotes pupil participation in school life.
With the support of HeadStart, schools can help not only to beat the odds for individual pupils, but also change the odds for pupils facing adversity.
